INTIMACY & MENTAL HEALTH COORDINATION

Intimacy Coordination
An intimacy coordinator plans and choreographs intimate scenes such as kissing, sex, or depictions of violence. They protect the physical and emotional boundaries of the performers through clear communication and agreements, aids such as modesty garments, and rehearsal protocols. This creates authentic scenes without assault, ensuring safe working conditions.

Mental Health Coordination
A mental health coordinator provides mental first aid and support for cast and crew, e.g., during emotionally stressful scenes. Unlike therapists, this role stabilizes the team preventively, without individual treatment—often combined with intimacy coordinators. Mental health coordinators prevent crises and promote a safe set environment. Their job is also to review scripts for mental health issues and advise on the portrayal of suicide, for example, to prevent imitation suicides.

Significance in film production
Both roles professionalize productions, reduce trauma risks, and enable safe working conditions.
